Kosher Food in Polanco Mexico City

Updated: Jun 27, 2021

I always viewed Mexico City as a really annoying stopover and never paid it any attention. That's until my husband visited Polanco and told me all about it. Polanco is a neighborhood in Mexico City with a Kosher restaurants, shuls, and a large Jewish community! Naturally, I'm about to show you all the Kosher spots to visit.

Av. Homero 1443, Polanco,

Polanco II Secc, Miguel Hidalgo,

11540 Ciudad de México, CDMX

This was our very first stop! Here, you can find a meat & dairy cafe, a small grocery section and a meat take out section too.

We ordered a Caprese Panini, the Pasta Rosa, a lemonana and a frappachino. Everything was tasty and well priced. The pasta was a very small portion, so order something with it if you're very hungry.

Must order: The Temini Soup from the meat section. It was well flavored, tasty, and all around great.

My husband was so thrilled with this place that he wrote this up:

Wow. Touring a new country for food can be both an exhilarating and daunting process. You never know what you’re going to get. Some dishes are good, some are bad, and some are great. So when you come across a dish that is spectacular it really makes an impact.

The Mushroom Alfredo fettuccine was out of this world. The Alfredo sauce was the perfect combination of flavor, creaminess, and lightness. The dish perfectly complimented itself.

We then ordered an individual margarita pie and although it didn’t compared to the Mushroom Alfredo pasta the tomatoes were perfectly cooked and had a sweet and zesty taste. Albeit, the dish did feel like it was missing something. The crust was perfect.

We also got an appetizer, a fried tortilla dressed with spicy Mayo and cooked tuna with a slice of avocado as a topping. The tortilla crunch was brilliant. The tuna was slightly over cooked for our preference. But we learned that this style of cooked-fish is in accordance with Mexican culture. So, in the future if you find yourself in Mexico and you're ordering fish, make sure to specify how you like it!

Must order: The Mushroom Alfredo Fettuccine

Av. Paseo de las Palmas 340, Lomas - Virreyes,

Lomas de Chapultepec, Miguel Hidalgo, 11000 Ciudad de México, CDMX

We went to Aguri twice because we needed to try their multiple menus in order to really capture the experience. Auguri is owned by a Venezuelan-Turkish native who fell in love with the lust and vibrancy of Italy. His restaurant captures the essence of fine dining and elegance one would be accustom to in a high-end Italian restaurant. The kitchen is comprised of three menus; an Italian menu, a Chinese menu, and a sushi menu.

We started both our evenings with drinks. Enough could not be said about both the flavor and experience. The staff bring a miniature bar table and bring you into the process of making your drink. We can’t choose one over the other, so if you’re with a few people order one of everything and share!!!! If you had to pick one, get the Lychee Gin.

Our first night we ate Italian. We started with an artichoke appetizer which was exquisite! We also ordered a ceviche which was beautifully plated. In fact everything was plated beautifully both nights. For our entree, we ordered the imported tomahawk which was massive. It came with four sides. We weren’t too thrilled with the sides or the flavor, but this might be a cultural thing.

Our second night we ate from the bamboo menu. If you can only eat here once, this Chinese menu was the winner by far! For starters we ate a salmon carpaccio and grilled peppers. We then got spoiled with Chicken Dynamite. This is the best thing we ate. The perfect amount of crispiness and tenderness, glazed with a light creamy mustard sauce with a hint of spicy. It was perfect.

If that wasn’t enough food we tried four different entrees from the Bamboo Menu. The Low Mein was something you’d see out of any Thai or Chinese kitchen, but these flavors. Yaaasss! After fighting our way through the sweet and sour chicken and the orange chicken, we were left with a bowl of rice.

The rice didn’t look anything special. Wasn’t as photogenic as the other dishes. DON’T JUDGE A BOOK!! This dish completely took us by surprise. The rice was so soft, the coconut flavor was perfect, not over powering and not too sweet. I don’t think we’ve had a better rice dish before. Oh and this is totally our of order but we also really enjoyed the bread.

We ended the night with a desert that could melt your heart. The chocolate lava cake paired with a scoop of ice cream battered in crumbs. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.

All in all, Aguri Kosher Trattoria is going to be one of, if not the best dining experience you’ll have in Polanco. The service is impeccable, the attention to detail is unprecedented, and the bamboo menu is delicious. Even if you’re just looking for a place to have cocktails, this is the best you’ll find in town. It’s obvious how much detail the owner has put into every aspect of his restaurant and his passion exudes in the delivery of your dining experience.

I’d even go ahead and say that this Kosher restaurant gave the best service than any other restaurant I’ve ever eaten at.

Temístocles 37, Polanco, Polanco V Secc,

Miguel Hidalgo, 11560 Ciudad de México, CDMX

This Argentinean restaurant is beautiful and I fell in love with the interior.

We started off with with a clericot which is also know as sangria. They gave us bread and dips to start, the bread was fresh, hot and wholesome.

We also got this meat soup, an empanada and a sausage that they made in house. If you’re into sausages try it out, it’s very flavorful. I really loved the soup, it was my favorite item on the menu. The empanada was a hit too!

in general I found the meat in all of Mexico City to be lacking. This place did a really good job on the parillada though.

All in all it was a great meal. Nothing innovative but it’s good and wholesome and fair pricing. The whole bill was under $100 with a tip.

Quesadillas Ascencio

Av Moliere 340C, Polanco, Polanco II Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11550 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

This place is a must stop in Polanco! I’d describe it as a bit of a hole in the wall. It’s not a pretty dining experience, but the food is really tasty and oh so cheap! It’s a limited menu, they serve dairy Mexican food. Bring cash, as they don’t take card. We only had $10 on us and we got all of this for $10.

Quesadillas We got a variety, my favorite was the mushroom one - champignon and my husband loved the one with beans - frijol.

Tamales

Made by being steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf! This was interesting.

Plantanos Asados

For dessert we got these plantains that are grilled and drenched in caramel. It was absolutely delicious.

All this ^ — $10.

Wendy’s Kosher Bakery

Av. Homero 1526, Polanco, Polanco II Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11550 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

We made a quick stop here just try one of their pastries. It’s a small bakery Ans grocery store. We got the halva rugguleh and it was really good!

Emet Kosher Grocery Store

Av Moliere 331, Polanco, Polanco III Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11550 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Shop here for all your kosher grocery needs! They have multiple locations but this is the one for Polanco.

That’s all on Polanco for now. Check out Tecamachalco, or in short Teca. It’s about 15-20 minutes away from Polanco and it has great kosher food options as well!

I also compiled a list on google so you can easily see all the bookmarked kosher food locations: https://www.google.com/maps/placelists/list/MiyZ0pkI9QxfNejS-MBOyZevezlw_Q
